Native Instruments Releases Abbey Road 60s Drums

Native Instruments and Abbey Road Studios have come together (no pun intended) to release Abbey Road 60s Drums, the first instrument created in the collaboration between the software instrument company and the iconic recording studio.

The virtual instrument, which was released January 25, features sounds from two classic drum kits of the 60s, a Gretsch and a Ludwig. To recreate an authentic 60s sound, the kits were recorded at Abbey Road using as much vintage equipment as possible. The mics, mixing consoles, preamps, tape machines, and of course the kits themselves were all used at Abbey Road in the 60s.

Running on Native Instrument’s Kontakt platform, Abbey Road 60s Drums provides the user with a variety of options, including a choice between “vintage” and “modern” microphone setups, separate “tea towel” samples for a punchier sound, 30 velocity layers per instrument – and if for some reason you really need the sound of a right hand hitting a floor tom instead of a left hand? They have separate samples for each hand as well.

Abbey Road 60s Drums is available for purchase as a DVD or download, and retails for $119.
