New Documentary: “Produced by George Martin” Arriving in September

For those of us who can never get enough of the Beatles and anyone close to them, Eagle Rock Entertainment has announced that it will release Produced By George Martin on September 11, 2012 on DVD ($14.98), Blu-ray ($19.98)and Digital Video ($12.99).

You know you want to learn more about this man.

The documentary is a feature-length profile of the man who is arguably Britain’s most celebrated record producer. In what promises to be a very personal film, Sir George talks about his childhood, his war experience and his early days as a music student.

Produced by George Martin was originally broadcast in 2011 as part of the BBC’s “Arena” series.  This version contains over 50 minutes of additional interviews that were not in the TV broadcast version, including contributions from Rick Rubin, T-Bone Burnett, Howard Goodall, Jimmy Webb and Ken Scott.

George Martin’s career began in the early ‘50s when he joined EMI/Parlophone and started working on orchestral music, music for children and pioneered a range of hugely successful comedy records with Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan, Peter Ustinov and others. In 1962, Martin signed The Beatles and… you know SOME of what came next in their unparalleled producer/artist collaboration there.

Produced By George Martin features numerous classic clips of the artists he has produced, and new interviews with many of them including Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Michael Palin, Jeff Beck, Rolf Harris, Cilla Black, Millicent Martin and Bernard Cribbins.

While those of in NYC aren’t thrilled about the release date, we’ll be happy when Produced by George Martin is available.
