New Gear Alert: Sibilance by Waves, Plug-In Collective Holiday Bundle, LS-208 Mic by Lauten & More

Waves introduces the Sibilance plugin.

Waves implements their Organic ReSynthesis technology to deliver the transparent, non-destructive Sibilance de-esser.

Powered by Waves’ innovative Organic ReSynthesis technology, this transparent vocal de-esser removes harsh vocal “s” sounds faster than ever before, allowing you to make your vocals sound brighter without harshness. Sibilance allows precise identification of unwanted sibilant sounds such as “s” and “sh,” resulting in smooth, glitch-free, effective de-essing that maintains the timbre, duration, and natural resonance of the original vocal sound.

Once applied, Sibilance’s unique method of separating sibilant parts from the raw vocal signal allows for what would otherwise be extreme processing on the vocal track, such as aggressive EQing to drastically brighten a vocal. With simple yet powerful controls, Sibilance takes only seconds to set up; insert it on a vocal or voiceover track, and simply set the threshold and range controls to dial in the perfect amount of “s” reduction.

Sibliance is on sale now for $39 (reg. $69).

Lauten Audio ships the LS-208 microphone.

Lauten Audio’s new LS-208 large diaphragm condenser is internally shock mounted, and features onboard, multi-stage high- and low-cut filters.

The LS-208 microphone is aimed at the needs of live recording for spoken voice in broadcast, live sound reinforcement, and in the studio. The new microphone is the first in the company’s new “Synergy Series” line.

The LS-208 is a front-address, high dynamic range, large diaphragm condenser microphone. It is constructed from top-quality components found in many high-end studio condenser microphones, yet it is built and packaged to withstand the rigors of broadcast and touring.

The new mic features independent, multi-stage, high- and low-cut filters to help engineers balance recordings at the microphone and aid in successfully capturing a performance while reducing the need for mixing. The 2-stage low-cut (50 and 120Hz) filters reduce low-end rumble and proximity effect in voice applications. The 2-stage high-cut (8 & 10kHz) filters help tame bright instruments and high frequencies. The LS-208 features internally shock mounted condenser elements to help reduce mechanical shock and vibrations. The mic requires 48V phantom power, uses a Cardioid polar pattern, and features a JFET transistor circuit with a transformer-based balanced output.

The LS-208 is available now, priced at $599.

Meet Generative Music’s updated Bloom App, developed by Brian Eno and Peter Chilvers.

You don’t need to be a musician to be able to use the Bloom app—it is just as capable of playing itself as it is of being played.

Brian Eno and Peter Chilvers are pleased to announce Bloom: 10 Worlds—a developed, augmented, and expanded new edition of 2008’s original Bloom app, which explored uncharted territory in the realm of applications.

Requiring no musical or technical ability, the egalitarian and user-friendly Bloom app enabled anyone of any age to create music, simply by touching the screen. Part instrument, part composition, and part artwork, Bloom’s innovative controls allowed users to create elaborate patterns and unique melodies by simply tapping the screen. A generative music player took over when Bloom was left idle, creating an infinite selection of compositions and their accompanying visualizations.

Bloom: 10 Worlds is a reimagining of the original—not simply a remaster. The widely broadened palette of sounds and images can be experienced via 10 new “worlds,” each exploring a new direction for Bloom. The first world you encounter is an echo of the original app, with circles appearing where the user taps, while the later worlds each introduce new combinations of sounds, shapes, colors, and rules of behavior.

Bloom: 10 Worlds is available in the app store for $3.99.

Roland unveils the Beat Sync Maker iOS app.

Syncing video with music has never been more streamlined, thanks to Roland’s new Beat Sync Maker app.

Roland’s Beat Sync Maker iOS app is a tool for DJs and EDM artists looking to pair professional visuals with their music. EDM and DJ music videos often include impressive visual effects and scene changes that fall in sync with the beat. Artists looking to bring these techniques into their own productions have often required a computer-based editor and some serious technical skills, but Roland’s Beat Sync Maker app for iOS changes all that, letting you bring a pro look to your smartphone performance videos with very little effort. Instead of relying solely on fixed angles that focus on hands over drum machines, controllers, and synths, artists can now infuse their music performances with polished visual effects that make their videos more engaging for a wider audience.

Beat Sync Maker automatically detects the beats in a performance and adds all sorts of custom video effects that stay in perfect time with the music. Going further, you can also drop in movie clips from your device with the app’s 2-Video Mix function. Via a simple and creative process, you can transform a video in minutes, save it to your device, and post it to social media.

Beat Sync Maker is available for free in the app store.
