New Gear Alert: Sonarworks’ New Reference Standard, RME M-32 Pro Converters, Lunastone Adds 3dB of Boost & More

Sonarworks establishes a new studio reference sound standard.

Sonarworks SR improves upon Sonarworks’ already-comprehensive room calibration algorithms, creating an even higher standard for their Reference software.

Included with the latest update of Sonarworks’ Reference 4 sound calibration software is a new standardization technology called Sonarworks SR. This development promises to resolve the age-old industry problem of disparate sonic reference points for audio professionals, delivering the same accurate studio reference sound on speakers and headphones.

By using patented, research-driven digital technologies, Sonarworks SR sets the frequency response to be like completely neutral speakers in a treated room. The calibration of headphones is done using a calibration profile pre-measured in the Sonarworks lab, while speaker calibration profile is produced by a user on-the-spot using Sonarworks measurement software.

Starting with the latest update to Reference 4, Sonarworks SR will be included in all of Sonarworks software products, effectively reducing the need for professionals to check their mixes on different listening systems while dramatically improving workflow and production times.

Sonarworks Reference 4 Headphone Edition is available for $99; Studio Edition is available for $249; the Premium Bundle is available for $699.

RME debuts the M-32 Pro AVB series of converters.

Synthax, distributor of RME products, will unveil the M-32 Pro AVB series of converters at InfoComm 2018.

The M-32 Pro AVB series by RME includes the M-32 AD Pro and M-32 DA Pro, two high-end, 32-channel 192kHz converters that meet the requirements of today’s productions and installations that require high analog channel counts.

Based on state-of-the-art, high-resolution converter components and a fully balanced analog circuit design, the new M-Series offers a signal-to-noise ratio of 120dB(A) with extremely low THD values, placing the converters in the reference class.

In addition to the two fully equipped MADI I/Os including separate signal routing, the new M-Series converters boast an AVB interface based on the open network standard IEEE 802.1 and 1722.1, enabling transmission of the 32 analog channels at maximum 192kHz sampling rate via a single Ethernet cable.

Combined with external AVB switches, the new converters can be quickly, easily, and reliably integrated into more complex network structures, thanks to the comprehensive time-synchronous signal processing of the AVB protocol.

Pricing on the M-32 AD Pro and M-32 DA Pro is not yet available.

Lunastone introduces Boost 18, a clean but flavorful booster.

Lunastone replaces their popular Pusher pedal with Boost 18, featuring an added 3dB of clean gain.

Lunastone now gives its previous boost pedal, The Pusher, a significant upgrade, as the new Boost 18 will take its place. The Pusher offered 15dB of clean boost, and as the name suggests, Boost 18 adds another three clicks with its 18dB of clean boost. Quite simply, Boost 18 will deliver even more of all the good stuff that The Pusher did. It has the same sonic flavor, clarity and compression, and goes all the way from unity gain at minimum, to 18dB at max.

Further, Lunastone has also improved the taper to give a smoother and more linear feel when you dial in the amount of Boost level.

Boost 18 is available now for $109.

Aviom releases the BOOM-1 tactile transducer processor.

Add some rumble to your live performance experience with the BOOM-1 Tactile Transducer Processor by Aviom.

A tactile transducer is similar in concept to a speaker, and is designed to be most effective reproducing low frequencies like those produced in music by bass instruments and drums (typically 200Hz and below).

BOOM-1 is designed to dramatically enhance a performer’s personal mixing experience by adding optimally-processed low-frequency tactile information to an in-ear or headphone monitor mix. Adding this low-frequency information to a drum throne, keyboard seat, guitarist’s stool, performance platform, or even to the floor of a stage, allows the body to feel bass frequencies, adding realism to the mix. The BOOM-1 Tactile Transducer Processor brings Aviom-optimized DSP to the tactile experience.

BOOM-1 is scheduled to begin shipping in Q3, 2018; pricing is not yet available.
