The Production Music Association (PMA) is taking on a hot topic with its latest NYC event.

“Production Music in Advertising: Trends and Opportunities” will be held this Monday, May 9th, from 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM at ASCAP, 1900 Broadway, 7th Floor in New York City. A sharp panel representing perspectives from advertising, marketing, original music production, music libraries, and performance rights organizations (PRO) has been assembled to tackle some very current topics.

When do ad agencies look beyond music houses and popular artists and turn to music libraries as a creative solution? These questions and many others will be posed to the panel by moderator Rob Reale, President & Founder of 4 Elements Music, the first-ever PMA panel focusing on the current state of production music in advertising. Creative, licensing and technological angles related to this fast-evolving area will all be explored.

Over the past two decades Josh Rabinowitz has produced over 8500 tracks for brands, cinema, recording labels and television. Concurrently he’s been an Adjunct Professor at NYU and The New School, a columnist for Billboard’s “With the Brand”, an oft cited industry insider in The NY Times, the WSJ, Rolling Stone, Crain’s, Forbes, Time, etc., and, a voice on Music in the Media with live appearances on Bloomberg TV News and NPR. Earlier this year Rabinowitz was chosen to be the inaugural President of the new Cannes Lions Music Jury to take place this June.

STEVE KNILL
EVP Global Sports & Entertainment at GMR Marketing, part of Omnicom

As EVP of Sports & Entertainment at GMR Marketing, part of Omnicom Group, Knill leads a global team in developing music programming with brand and agency clients. 
 His team also manages Omnicom’s involvement in MusicLink. Before joining GMR, Knill held various marketing and promotion positions at music labels and artist management firms. His career started as a recording and touring musician.

Starting as a writer and editor in 1998 for magazines like EQ, Post Magazine and Mix, and later consulting for music houses, studios and music publishers, Janice has spent years developing a unique skill-set and network of musical resources. Since entering into the world of advertising in 2008 as a producer for So Loud Music, Janice also co-founded the online magazine SonicScoop.com, further developing her connection to the world of music vendors and publishers. She joined Groove Guild as a music producer and supervisor in 2013, where she has produced music on commercials for State Farm, Fisher-Price, Trip Advisor, The Food & Drug Administration, Chrysler and more.

President and Executive Producer of 5 Alarm Music

DR. LYNNE LUMMEL
ASCAP EVP and Chief Transformation Management Officer

Dr. Lynne Lummel is responsible for supporting the execution of ASCAP’s six-year plan. Prior to her current assignment she was responsible for Distribution and Repertory, overseeing the matching of hundreds of billions of TV, radio, Internet and other musical performances to ASCAP repertoire and the distribution of hundreds of millions of dollars each year. She has been instrumental in bringing video and audio pattern recognition technologies to ASCAP, expanding ASCAP surveys and streamlining operations. Papers on her work at ASCAP have been published in the JOURNAL OF HIGH PERFORMANCE TEAMS and REWARD AND RECOGNITION FOR TEAMS (Jossey-Bass). She was honored in BILLBOARD’S 2013 Women in Music edition. She has a doctoral degree from Columbia University, a master’s degree from the University of Florida and a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University, where she serves on the College of Business Board of Governors.

Rob Reale is the founder and president of 4 Elements Music, a production music library specializing in TV, film, advertising, trailers, and more.  While running 4 Elements Music, Rob continues to be a busy composer in many areas of the business, his favorite being musical theater which has garnered him a Tony nomination and untold happiness.
