System Highlights: The main piece of gear will be my Legendary Audio’s Masterpiece. Created by Billy Stull and designed by Rupert Neve, there are only three in NY, and 39 in the world. Next would be my B&W speakers, and next would be Metric Halo’s MIO 2882.
Distinguishing Characteristics: It’s a big room, and everybody says that it feels like grandma’s living room! It’s also very, very red, I get a lot of compliments on that and the fact that I feature art on my walls by friends of mine. I also do my best to make people feel comfortable.
The building is on fire, you only have time to grab ONE thing to save, what is it? It would be difficult, but definitely the Masterpiece.
Rave Reviews: The color, the vibe, and the fact that they can hear their music in a detailed way. Sometimes I get clients saying “I never heard that instrument this clear!” All my clients have come back, be it for one song or one album, haven’t lost one yet.
Most Memorable Session Ever: I try to make all of them memorable. Lots of times we end up sharing an American microbrew and just chilling after the album is done. I am the owner, so yeah, I can do whatever I want in terms of using the space for as long as I want, at any time my clients feel comfortable.
Session You’d Like to Forget: Oh, I had a person bringing four songs that were all over the place: loud mixes and real quiet ones. That doesn’t matter, because it’s my job to make them sound consistent, but he wanted everything LOUD. After an hour, he still didn’t trust the songs would be real loud, so I ended up ending the session when I heard the 50th “LOUDER!”
Dream Session: I would love to host a classical session. But in terms of artists, I think I would love to host a Justin Broadrick project, especially if Godflesh puts out a new album! Prong would also be nice. — Julian Silva, On Air Mastering
