Power Mixes and Masters Laika Fatien, N.A.S.A., J Dilla Tribute

From his Chez Bob Studios in NYC, Grammy award-winning and multi-platinum producer/mixer Bob Power (De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, D’Angelo, Erykah Badu) has been working on projects with Universal France jazz chanteuse, Laika Fatien, DJ/producer collab N.A.S.A. and the upcoming J. Dilla concert-tribute DVD box set, Timeless.

Power spent the majority of January mixing and mastering the Laika Fatien record. Produced by NYC bass player/singer/songwriter Meshell Ndegeocello, the Parisian’s album features a combination of notable session and jazz players: Keefus Ciancia, Chris Bruce, Deantoni Parks, Meshell, Josh Roseman, Oliver Lake, Mark Kelley, and Kendrick Scott.

Power also mixed and mastered the N.A.S.A. track, “Gifted.” N.A.S.A. — North America/South America — is a collaboration between producer Squeak E. Clean and Brazilian DJ Zegon with a variety of ‘guest’ artists. ”Gifted” features Kanye West, Santogold and Lykke Li. Check out the video:

And, Power mixed and mastered a live 60-piece orchestra rendition of “Take Notice” from hip-hop producer/rapper/DJ J Dilla’s Rough Draft EP. This tribute was arranged and conducted by Miguel Atwood-Ferguson for the Timeless concert series, “Suite for Ma Dukes,” and features drummer Karreim Riggins, Pos d Nous of De La Soul, Bilal, and Talib Kweli. The three-part “Timeless” event series will come out as a DVD box set next month.

Aside from mixing, mastering, producing, engineering, composing, arranging, and performing, Power is also an instructor at NYU’s Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music in Tisch School of the Arts.
