Vitalis Audio Debuts — Launches Custom Cutaway Guitar NS10 Studio Ribbon Monitors

Call it what you will – upcycling, convergence, evolution – here’s an approach to monitor design that you’ll definitely notice.

The Vitalis Audio Cutaway Guitar NS10 StudioRibbon has the classic Yamaha NS10 in a decidedly different body.

The Vitalis Audio Cutaway Guitar NS10 StudioRibbon puts the classic Yamaha NS10 woofer and a ribbon tweeter in a decidedly different body.

It comes from Vitalis Audio, a NY-based boutique manufacturer of systems for the pro audio and audiophile market. Founded by Tal Levy, a former studio owner, the emerging shop takes a highly artistic approach to the design and build of speakers, monitors, and amplifiers, using the natural resonance of wooden acoustic instruments to create an organic sound experience.

The creations are visually striking as well. Levy applies visual aesthetics including classic Old World, Steampunk, Tribal, Gothic, and Biomechanical styles in his designs.

While most Vitalis Audio creations are aimed at audiophiles, Levy has directed some of his distinctive ideas to the studio. Available now is the Cutaway Guitar NS10 StudioRibbon, made of a pair of special black finish full-size cutaway guitar speakers, each sporting 6.5 inch Yamaha NS10 wood-stained woofers. The monitors are approximately 40 inches in height, with a 1.5 inch ribbon tweeter from Japan.

A special recording studio edition, they stand on a classic style handmade stained wood finish base, and promise to stand up to Studio A specs (and surpass them), owing to the unique combination of guitar body resonance, Yamaha’s NS10, and a ribbon tweeter.

An “Elvis White Angel” edition is also available for your Studio B, sporting a scintillating white finish on handmade, solid wood tripod stands with a special shock absorption feature.

Prices for guitar systems start at $3900.

More for audiophile than pro applications, its nonetheless striking enough to consider finding a space for it in your studio’s lounge. This system features a pair of natural wood, 2-way, 1/16th size Violin Speakers, with 1.75-inch Altec mid-range woofers, sporting a 15-watt tube amp based on a Magnavox, single ended amplifier. The subwoofer is a 4.5-inch Altec speaker, mounted via a 6.5-inch bongo drum, complete with spike embellishments. Set on a black painted, handmade wooden stand, it provides 20-watts per channel and a very sweet tube sound.
