New Gear Alert: Steinberg’s Nuendo 10, Orion 32+ | Gen 3 by Antelope, LS-308 Isolation Mic from Lauten & More

Steinberg unveils Nuendo 10.

Steinberg’s Nuendo 10 offers scores of new features and improvements to performance in this major update.

Steinberg’s Nuendo 10 combines premium audio quality with an endless number of advanced editing tools, intelligent workflow enhancements, and exciting new features. To expedite post-production workflow, Nuendo 10 now includes Video Cut Detection for analyzing videos for edits and setting markers automatically. Field Recorder Audio Import allows you to search field recorder audio files and match these with a project’s events using available attributes or metadata.

Also included is a brand-new Doppler effect that virtually simulates the changing perception of a sound as its source passes. Among many other new and redesigned plugins, the VoiceDesigner is the ideal tool for modifying voices, with parameters such as Detune, Formant, Preserve (for pitch shifting while preserving formants), Robot, Morph and FX.

ADM files can now be directly imported into a new or existing project, and new video rendering capabilities, such as Cue Sheet Export and ARA support, will also be introduced in a later update. Further functionality to Direct offline Processing has been added, such as quick drag-and-drop of insert plugins into the process, and a loudness normalizer.

Other technological highlights include the support of the dearVR Spatial Connect 3D audio production tool for mixing within the VR world, as well as further advances with the AmbiDecoder to create an unmatched immersive experience.

These considerable feature additions are rounded out by including the many musical features new to Cubase 10 and many other small workflow and performance improvements.

Nuendo 10 will be available in Q2 2019, priced at $999.99 (boxed) / $979.99 (download).

For those who are in need of some serious noise rejection, look no further than Lauten Audio’s LS-308.

The new LS-308 mic features extreme levels of noise rejection, and is specifically designed as a “problem solver” tool for challenging recording situations when isolation is needed but difficult to achieve.

The LS-308’s 270 degrees of side and rear off-axis rejection reduces ambient sound from nearby sources by up to 25dB. This rejection is achieved because of Lauten Audio’s unique dual, large-diaphragm pressure gradient transducer element design, in combination with its specially designed circuit. This makes the LS-308 a very specific tool for recording engineers, perfect for rejection of other instruments, crowds, etc, as well as live in-studio or on-stage applications—or even multi-person close-proximity vocal dialogue in noisy broadcast environments.

The LS-308 features 120dB (135dB total) of dynamic range without the need for additional attenuation, a second-order cardioid pattern, independent 2-stage low- and high-cut frequency switches, internally shock mounted pressure gradient condenser elements, and a swing-arm mount with 135 degrees of movement (removable).

The LS-308 is priced at $499.

V-Control Pro from Neyrinck now connects legacy control surfaces to DAWs.

Users of legacy controllers rejoice; thanks to Neyrinck’s V-Control, select old units can now communicate with new versions of Pro Tools and other leading DAWs.

Neyrinck, a San Francisco-based software company specializing in music technology solutions, has introduced V-Control Pro version 2.3, which connects legacy control surfaces to DAWs. This is the only solution for legacy devices Digidesign ProControl and Digidesign Control|24 to work with Pro Tools (11, 12, 2018, and 2019), Logic Pro X, Cubase, and Nuendo.

Until now, ProControl and Control|24 surfaces have not been supported by any other DAW than Pro Tools. V-Control Pro already supported several DAWs with its V-Console app for tablets and phones, so it was a natural fit to connect them to ProControl and Control|24. ProControl systems of up to thirty-two faders are supported.

Three versions of V-Control Pro are available now in the Neyrinck store: V-Control Pro Free can be installed with limited features as a trial; the V-Control Pro Bundle is priced at $49.99/year; the V-Control Bundle Full License is $199.
