Synthplex Festival Bringing Synthesizer Heaven to LA – March 28-31

Synthesizers, the people who play them, and the listeners that love them have a new mecca to flock to: We speak of Synthplex.

Synth out at Synthplex!!! This fest is set to launch March 28th-31st in Los Angeles.

Officially it’s known as the first annual Synthplex Electronic Music Festival and Gear Expo, and this new soiree of sound is set to take place March 28th-31st at the LA Marriot Burbank Airport Hotel & Convention Center. Celebrating “all things synthesizer, Synthplex is a veritable step sequencer of aural awesomeness. The four-day fest will feature:

  • A trade show exhibiting a wide range synthesizer gear, pedals, mic, amps and related accessories; Educational & Technology Based Seminars
  • Master Q&A Sessions with Industry Icons
  • DIY Synthesizer Build Workshops
  • Nightly Live Synthesizer and DJ concert performances
  • A Hands-On Pop-Up Synth Museum with extremely rare instruments that attendees can play and sample
  • A Saturday Night Gala Dinner Banquet to cap it off, featuring legendary artist Thomas Dolby performing for an intimate audience limited to just 300 people

A diverse lineup of speakers will shed light on all things synth. They include Allee Willis, Dave Smith of Sequential, Craig Anderton, Shelly Peiken, Russell Brower, Michael Lehmann Boddicker, Marc Doty, Guy Moon, Chris Meyer, Fletcher Beasley, Javad Butah, Lawrence Grey, Chuck Jonkey, Alan Howarth, Gerd Peun and more. Synthplex attendees won’t even have to get hands-on for a full electronic music immersion. Every night will see live artists performing synthesizer-centric music in a wide array of genres on two different stages, both stereo and quad. Solo performers will employ Eurorack synthesizer, and “unbelievably large” 5U modular synthesizers.

Also headlining on Saturday will be the first-ever duo performance from multi-faceted movie composer Mark Isham and drummer Vinnie Colaiuta (Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Sting). In all, over 30 artists are booked – see the full schedule here.

In addition, each day from noon to 5 PM, dublab radio will be broadcasting live from the Quad Courtyard Stage at Synthplex. They will be conducting interviews with Synthplex speakers and artists, and Dublab local DJ crews will be spinning synth-based electronic music.
